About BSL Productions, Inc.
Since its inception, BSL Productions, Inc. (BSL) has grown to become
one of the largest full service lighting companies on the east coast. With
a staff of over 25, BSL offers professional lighting design and complete equipment
packages for live entertainment, corporate meetings, industrial shows, and
special events. Our facility provides sales, rentals, repairs and service for
the entire Mid-Atlantic region and beyond.
Founded in 1968 in a two-story walk up in Idlewylde, Maryland, what started
out as a hobby would turn into a thriving and integral business in the lighting
industry.
One of the very first products manufactured in house was called a "psychedelic
light box". This item was sold to the Mardi Gras Club; spawning a need
to provide inventive and new ideas in lighting. Touring groups began
recognizing the need for special effects and arena lighting. Thus, in
1976, BSL Productions
was officially born and, shortly thereafter, incorporated.
Touring was the bread and butter of lighting back in the day. One of
the first tours BSL lit was with George Benson. The (then smaller) BSL staff
welded trusses, built cable assemblies, and constructed road cases at a fevered
pace. In just six days a tour was born!
This kind of hard work and dedication was the foundation that BSL was
built upon. Our production department has the reputation of being one of the
premier teams in the business. We use the latest in CAD rendering systems to
generate lighting plots, facility layouts, and any related schematics to insure
a customized design for individual clients.
BSL has grown to provide our services to clients and venues throughout
North America and all over the world. Our Production Services department lights
an average of five shows a week. Our Rental and Sales departments cater to
the needs of schools, theaters, night clubs, and all facets of the entertainment
industry. BSL carries a full line of dimmers, controllers, fixtures, spotlights,
special effects, trussing and rigging. We also do our own in-house repairs!
We are continually updating our inventory with new equipment and effects as
soon as they become available.
